Cecilia Sanchez is an artist and designer from Mexico. She graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design (Vancouver) in 2018 with a bachelor’s in Interaction Design. Over time she has explored different mediums, but illustration has been the main focus in the last few years. Her illustrations serve as a means of communication, allowing her to express herself in a manner that is both relatable and engaging. At the heart of her art practice lies a deep exploration of self and identity. Her work is defined by organic, flowing lines that abstain from traditional notions of realism and instead embrace a more abstract and fluid form.
My creative process is one of letting go of the fear of ruining a blank page, the notion of realism and allowing my instincts to guide me. This approach has led me to discover new forms and textures in my illustrations. As I have progressed on my artistic journey, my illustrations have become a powerful tool in my exploration of identity, sexuality, and self-expression. In recent years, I have expanded my practice beyond illustration, exploring other mediums such as jewelry making and embroidery. This expansion has allowed me to bring new dimensions to my work, experimenting with new materials and techniques to create pieces that are truly unique. Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my innermost self – a journey towards acceptance, love, and understanding.
