She works as a visual artist and muralist. For the artist, urban art is an infallible way to express herself and for other people to enjoy her creations. For Laura, painting in the street is an innate, uncontrollable impulse with which she enjoys and shares her art with the neighborhood. “I am always the one who goes looking for the canvas, instead, it is the walls that find me”.
The central figure in Laura Gonballes’ work is women. “The colorful women that appear in my paintings, although different from me, are me. They are me fighting, joining, contorting with life.” She paints women because it is her way of claiming her space in the world. For everyone to see them, she gives them their place with different shapes, sizes and supports. “Too many times we are forgotten, we are killed, we are ignored, we are squeezed. With my colors and my shapes I shout to the world that here we are, all of us, without exception reminding everyone with brushstrokes that it is our moment.”
