Majka Tkáčiková

Majka Tkacikova was born in Slovakia, 1991. She grew up in a calm rural environment that allowed her to develop a strong sensibility toward beauty that resulted in her deep interest in art. She studied Theory of interactive art and New media art (Masaryk University, Czech Republic). Majka lived and participated in different cultural projects in Slovenia, England, Denmark, and finally, Spain where she started her career as an art curator, producer, and artist. Now she is based in Barcelona where she works as an artist and is involved in different social and cultural initiatives.

With a special interest in art installations, especially the ones placed in public spaces. She started to participate in public projects and simultaneously experimented with ceramic sculpture. The intention was to bring art out of gallery spaces and invite the wider public to interact with it. Majka is interested in visual art and sculptures and their ability to build cultural, social, and intergenerational dynamics; and their possibility to connect to deeper levels of human and emotional experience.

She explores the clay as an extension of her own body in order to process her emotions in the wordless language of touch. Majka uses ceramic sculpture as a means to channel internal affective processes, creating forms that challenge the boundaries between abstraction, organic and anthropomorphic shapes.
