Yilov

Yilov’s paintings are all made on things she finds on the streets of Barcelona. She believes some of the most valuable things in life are the things we take for granted and throw to the side.

Yilov left home in Denver Colorado at age 17 to travel the world and make art. Paying for her travels through murals done at hostels and homes in Italy, Portugal, Morocco, Puerto Rico, and Spain.

After about 3 years, she got tired of traveling and decided to move to Barcelona to become a tattoo artist. She spent almost two years tattooing at studios in Barcelona and the USA. But realized that tattooing wasn’t her passion, and that she prefers to paint. Where she can be messy, spill paint, and express everything she feels into her paintings.

The paintings of Yilov don’t have a face. When she started painting like this, she had been through a lot of loss, and felt a sort of emptiness, a non-existence. In that time she would look at the ocean, or the sky and see something beautiful, a sort of non-existent existence. This is what she tries to capture in her paintings.
