Laura Plou

The artist’s practice originates in a persistent obsession with identity and the elements that shape it, operating along the blurred boundary between the innate and the acquired. Holding a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, her early research developed through realistic drawing, collage, and painting, exploring portraiture as a map of human essence. This formative and exhibition phase, which led her to participate in platforms such as Estudio Abierto in Argentina and in various group exhibitions in Spain and New York, laid the foundations of her current visual language.

Following a process of introspection and material experimentation, her work has evolved from the pictorial surface toward sculptural relief under the project Plou Design. In this stage, contemporary craftsmanship becomes the vehicle through which everyday objects are transformed into pieces charged with symbolism. Through hyperrealistic reliefs of human features—mouths, noses, gestures—the artist intervenes in the object to endow it with a new expressive weight. Her current works, such as the tiles, transcend the category of design to become fragments of identity, inviting the viewer to rediscover the everyday from a tactile, organic, and profoundly human perspective.
